Targeted check in Traun: Police pull 13 e-scooters from traffic – one reaches 150 km/h

Minors in focus

A total of 13 e-scooter riders were pulled from traffic during the operation. According to police, these were predominantly minors who had been given the vehicles by their parents. Among those flagged was a 12-year-old whose e-scooter reached a speed of 51 km/h. A 14-year-old was caught twice within one week. His e-scooter reached a speed of 43 km/h, according to police. In the case of another vehicle, the measurement was stopped at 83 km/h.

The juveniles of criminal responsibility as well as the adults involved will be reported multiple times to the Linz-Land district administration. Parents as well as the juveniles, provided they are already of criminal responsibility, will be reported. Reports will also be filed against those legal guardians who have allowed their children to use such e-scooters.

Consequences for parents and juveniles

Police pointed in this context to the accident risks posed by excessive speed. On July 11, 2026 alone, two traffic accidents involving personal injury in which e-scooters were involved also occurred in Traun. The officers emphasized that especially tuned or overly heavy devices pose a considerable safety risk for young riders.

The checks in Traun and the surrounding area are part of a series of targeted operations with which police in Upper Austria are specifically acting against non-compliant e-scooters. According to police, particular attention is paid to whether the vehicles comply with the legally prescribed maximum speed of 25 km/h and do not exceed the permitted motor output of 600 watts.

Further checks planned

With the reports against parents and juveniles of criminal responsibility, police say they want to send a signal that responsibility for road safety does not lie with juveniles alone. Anyone who allows their children to use e-scooters that do not comply with the rules must expect legal consequences, it was said.

The operation in Traun has not yet been completed. Further checks in the region are planned, according to police. Targeted checks around e-scooters will also be continued in other Upper Austrian districts.
