Since the introduction of EU tariffs on electric cars from China, Western manufacturers have, according to a study, once again been producing their e-cars increasingly in Europe, while Chinese competitors BYD and Geely continue to increase their imports.
The European transport association T&E has taken stock of the consequences of EU tariffs on Chinese electric cars in a new investigation. Accordingly, the share of "Made in China" battery vehicles from Western automakers sold in Europe fell from 38 to 23 percent of total e-car sales between 2024 and the first quarter of this year. "Seit der Einführung von EU-Zöllen auf Elektroauten aus China produzieren westliche Hersteller einer Studie zufolge ihre E-Autos wieder verstärkt in Europa", the association said. The Western brands examined are BMW, Dacia, Volvo, Smart, and Tesla.
