Berlin, June 11, 2026

Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone and O2 Telefónica have presented a jointly funded study in Berlin that proposes shutting down antenna TV DVB-T2 and releasing the corresponding radio frequencies for mobile communications from 2031.

The Position of the Mobile Network Operators

The consulting firm WIK Consult had been commissioned by the three major network operators to investigate the future use of certain radio frequency ranges. According to the study, the central finding is that certain radio frequency ranges should be released for mobile communications from 2031. The study authors conclude that the public broadcasters could save up to 369 million euros within ten years if they switched off DVB-T2.
