Tesla announces significantly increased production in Grünheide for 2026

The Grünheide plant, which opened in March 2022, is Brandenburg's largest industrial facility according to the company. At the end of 2025, the site employed approximately 11,000 staff members, including temporary workers. As part of the planned expansion, a total of 3,500 new jobs are to be created.

Employment and revenue

More than 30 markets are supplied from the Grünheide site, according to the report. „Mehr als 30 Märkte würden aus Grünheide beliefert, weitere sollten erschlossen werden", the company writes. However, revenue declined from 7.7 billion euros in 2024 to 7.1 billion euros in 2025. According to the company, Tesla attributes this primarily to lower production costs.

Unlike revenue, net profit developed positively: Net profit for 2025 was 77.1 million euros, approximately 20 million euros above the previous year's figure. The Model Y currently produced in Grünheide was the best-selling electric car in Europe in 2025, according to the company.

Battery production and value creation

Tesla describes the bundling of the entire value chain from the battery cell to the finished vehicle at the Grünheide site as „in dieser Form einzigartig in Europa". However, the full implementation of the battery value chain depends on the economic framework conditions, as cell production in Europe faces considerable challenges compared to the USA and China. As part of the expansion, Tesla nevertheless plans to expand battery cell production in Grünheide.

Risks and competition

The annual report also contains risk warnings: „Weiter eskalierende geopolitische Spannungen sowie damit einhergehende negative gesamtwirtschaftliche Auswirkungen wie eine Unterbrechung von Lieferketten könnten sich negativ auf die Prognose auswirken." Tesla also expects increasing competition in the automotive market. „Viele unserer Konkurrenten verfügen über wesentlich mehr Ressourcen oder sind besser etabliert als Tesla, um ihre Produkte zu entwerfen, zu entwickeln, herzustellen, zu vertreiben, zu bewerben und zu verkaufen", the report states.

According to the company, the expansion plans are tied to market development. Already in the initial phase after the 2022 opening, Tesla had targeted annual production of 500,000 vehicles in Grünheide. Der Tagesspiegel had previously reported on the expansion plans. A study commissioned by the company and published at the end of 2025 also concluded that the plant does not pollute groundwater; however, environmental organizations continue to express concerns due to the partial location in a water protection area. According to the available information, of renewed state subsidies, 50 million euros have already been disbursed, predominantly for Tesla models.

Analyst firms rate the Tesla stock differently: Deutsche Bank AG rated it „Buy" on 15.07.26, and Jefferies & Company Inc. rated it „Hold" on 13.07.26.
