Hannover, 17 July 2026
Before the Hannover Regional Court, the trial against a 49-year-old doctor at Hannover Medical School (MHH) began on Friday. The public prosecutor's office accuses him of the murder of three seriously ill patients between 2019 and 2025.
According to the public prosecutor's office, investigations against the physician have been ongoing since 2025. The indictment is based on three allegations from the years 2019, 2020, and 2025. In May 2019, the man, who was deployed as an emergency doctor at the time, is said to have been called to a seriously ill elderly woman in a shared dementia apartment in Hannover. There, he allegedly administered medication to the patient against medical necessity in order to kill her on the spot.
At the center of the indictment is also the case of a patient in the same shared dementia apartment. According to the Regional Court, the woman had initially merely fallen asleep and did not die. The defendant then allegedly administered three additional ampoules of fentanyl to her in order to bring about her death in his presence. In a third incident, the indictment accuses the doctor of having decided, as an emergency doctor, not to admit a patient to a hospital despite medical necessity and of having killed her on site.
