Salzburg, August 3, 2026

The trial of an 86-year-old woman from Salzburg began on Monday before the Salzburg Regional Court. She is accused of having attempted to kill her 61-year-old severely disabled daughter with the sedative Halcion in August 2025.

Background of the charges

The accused is standing trial for attempted murder. According to the indictment, she allegedly administered the drug Halcion, an active substance from the benzodiazepine group, in August 2025 in order to bring about her daughter's death. The 61-year-old daughter survived the incident and received medical treatment.

According to the public prosecutor's office, the daughter suffers from a severe congenital developmental disorder with significant intellectual disability. She can neither read nor write – with the exception of her first name – and, according to expert assessments, is not capable of making independent decisions.
