US President Donald Trump has announced the reimposition of a naval blockade against Iranian ports and has also ordered a 20 percent levy on all goods transported through the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump justified the move via his platform Truth Social. All other countries should be granted „fair and open" access to the waterway, he stated. The Strait of Hormuz is „open and will remain open, with or without Iran," he wrote in another post.

In parallel, Trump announced that the US would henceforth claim revenues of 20 percent of cargo value for itself „for reasons of fairness" to ensure the safe transit of the waterway. The US military would „prevent the ships of Iran or its customers from entering or leaving," he declared according to available sources.
