The US government has announced the resumption of a naval blockade against Iran, which is to take effect on Tuesday at 22:00 Central European Time and will affect the entire Iranian coast, including all ports and oil terminals.

US President Donald Trump announced the measure on Monday, July 13, 2026. The responsible regional command of the US military, Centcom, later confirmed that the blockade would be resumed as of Tuesday afternoon US East Coast time (22:00 German time). The passage of neutral ships through the Strait of Hormuz to ports outside Iran will not be hindered.

At the same time, Trump announced a 20 percent levy on all goods transported through the strait. This was intended to compensate costs incurred in securing the passage, according to the president. On the platform Truth Social, Trump justified the step by saying that the USA had to be compensated for security „in this very troubled part of the world“.
