Following his defeat before the US Supreme Court, Donald Trump has announced that he will apply to reopen the proceedings on his citizenship decree.

Donald Trump publicly stated on Wednesday that he will file a motion to reopen the case before the Supreme Court of the United States. The background is the court's decision to strike down a decree he issued restricting birthright US citizenship. Trump called the ruling "wrong" and "outrageous" and announced legal action.

The justices' ruling was issued on June 30 by a six-to-three vote against the decree of January 20, 2025, the day of Trump's second inauguration. In the justices' view, the decree violates the 14th Amendment to the Constitution of 1868, which fundamentally guarantees US citizenship to every child born in the country.
