Washington, June 10, 2026

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed into law a $70 billion package for immigration control and deportations over the next three years.

Political Context

The package had previously been passed by the Senate and subsequently cleared the House of Representatives by a vote of 214 to 212. "Ein entsprechender Gesetzentwurf passierte nach dem Senat mit 214 zu 212 Stimmen auch knapp das Repräsentantenhaus", according to reporting on the vote. In doing so, the government prevailed in a budget conflict that had been simmering for months, in which the opposition Democrats had initially blocked the funds at the beginning of the year.
