Los Angeles, June 26, 2026
Turkey has won their final group game at the 2026 World Cup against co-host USA 3:2 (2:1) in Los Angeles, securing their first point of the tournament.
The team coached by Vincenzo Montella, who had already been eliminated before kickoff, delivered a courageous performance at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood near Los Angeles and turned the match around after falling behind. With this result, Turkey – participating in a World Cup for the first time since 2002 – bows out of the tournament with a respectable ending. The match, however, had no further impact on the standings in Group D.
The USA, who had already secured first place in the group, rotated heavily and fielded nine new players in the starting lineup. Despite the numerous changes, Mauricio Pochettino's team overwhelmed the Turkish defense in the opening phase and took an early lead through a goal from Auston Trusty in the third minute. Just as in the tournament opener against Paraguay (4:1), the Americans got off to a dream start before the Turks had even touched the ball.
