Los Angeles, June 13, 2026
The USA have convincingly won their opening match at the 2026 home World Cup against Paraguay 4:1 (3:0) at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, securing a brilliant starting position for the group stage.
First-half onslaught
The team led by US coach Mauricio Pochettino made a dream start to the first match of the home World Cup. An own goal by Damián Bobadilla (8th minute) put the US side in front. Christian Pulisic was double-teamed on the left side, but the former Borussia Dortmund professional worked his way through impressively and set up Weston McKennie, whose cross was deflected into his own net by Bobadilla. Following the opening ceremony at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, which featured performances by superstar Katy Perry among others, the US attack continued to roll forward.
