Udo Lindenberg Hospitalized, Cancels Hometown Birthday Event

The Brost Foundation, which organized the event, stated that the gathering unfortunately had to be cancelled. The cancellation was communicated on Friday midday.

Despite the health setback, a major tribute to Lindenberg will proceed. The special exhibition 'Udo L. – aus dem Pott ins Hotel' at the rock'n'popmuseum in Gronau is not affected by the cancellation.

The exhibition, funded by the Brost Foundation, will run as planned from Thursday, June 4, until the end of 2026. Its centrepiece is a faithful replica of Lindenberg's hotel room in Hamburg, serving as a belated tribute for his 80th birthday.

A Belated Birthday Tribute

Gronau holds special significance as Lindenberg's birthplace. The museum exhibition traces his journey from the industrial Ruhr region, colloquially known as the 'Pott', to his iconic residency at a Hamburg hotel.

A few weeks ago, Lindenberg opened another exhibition in Werl, about 100 kilometers from Gronau. That show displays his pictures and drawings, with titles referencing his famous songs such as 'Sie spielte Cello', 'Hinterm Horizont' and 'Ich mach mein Ding'.

A Life Celebrated in Art

Multiple exhibitions and events about Lindenberg's life and work have been launched around his milestone birthday. The Brost Foundation has been a key supporter of these cultural tributes.

Lindenberg, a towering figure in German rock music, is known for his distinctive voice, his trademark hat and sunglasses, and his decades-long career that includes hits and a famous long-term residency at the Hotel Atlantic in Hamburg.

The news of his hospitalization has prompted an outpouring of well-wishes from fans across Germany. The Brost Foundation's statement focused on the need for rest, without providing further details on his condition or the expected duration of his treatment.
