Kyiv, 15 June 2026
A wave of Russian ballistic missiles and Shahed drones struck Kyiv overnight, killing at least five people, wounding more than 20 and causing substantial damage to the UNESCO World Heritage site Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, Ukrainian officials said on Monday.
A series of powerful explosions echoed across the capital as a salvo of ballistic missiles was followed by drones, prompting officials to urge residents to take shelter underground. Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, said five strikes hit civilian sites in the city's Shevchenkivskyi district in less than 30 minutes, including a 25-story apartment building. A market and a grocery store also caught fire, he said, declaring: "Kyiv is under the main strike."
