Background to the attacks

The attack at a distance of approximately 700 kilometers from the front line illustrates the growing range of Ukraine's drone and missile programs. The second facility, approximately 1,300 kilometers from the front line, underscores the ability to hit targets deep in the Russian rear.

Russia had in recent months in turn intensified its attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure. Both states accuse the other of striking supply facilities in order to hit civilian populations.
