The UN mission UNIFIL has registered a significant decline in shelling in Lebanon since the framework agreement between the US and Iran, as the spokesperson for António Guterres, Stéphane Dujarric, announced on Tuesday in New York.

The situation in Lebanon initially calmed following the announcement of the US-Iran agreement, according to the United Nations. The UN peacekeeping force UNIFIL observed a decline in violence and shooting between midnight and 16:00 local time. Stéphane Dujarric said that no shells from Hezbollah or other non-state actors had been registered.

However, the UN mission counted around 130 shells and two airstrikes attributed to Israeli forces in the period from the agreement until yesterday afternoon. Prior to the announcement of the US-Iran agreement, UNIFIL soldiers had registered 135 violations of Lebanese airspace by the Israeli army, as well as 133 shells and two airstrikes. After the agreement, according to UN figures, 25 violations of Lebanese airspace by the IDF were still recorded.
