Guantanamo Bay, 30 May 2026

High-ranking military officials from the United States and Cuba held a direct meeting at the Guantanamo Bay naval base in late May 2026 to address questions of operational security, both sides confirmed.

The US military stated that the brief exchange covered 'questions of operational security' but provided no further details. Cuba's Defense Ministry described the encounter as a 'positive meeting' that took place by mutual agreement, and both sides agreed to maintain communication.

The meeting was led on the US side by a general who conducted a security review of the base, speaking with officials about force protection, soldier and family safety, and operational readiness. The Cuban delegation included military representatives such as Legra and other members of the Cuban armed forces.
