In a renewed escalation in the Persian Gulf, the United States has struck Iranian military targets, prompting Iran to report retaliatory strikes on US facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain.

US military command Centcom said that during the night, ten Iranian military targets in and along the Strait of Hormuz were hit. According to the command, these included air defense positions, drone storage sites, and surveillance infrastructure. The attack came in response to an Iranian shelling of a cargo ship. A senior US official told Fox News that the latest retaliatory strike had been more extensive than the attack the previous evening.

The British maritime authority UKMTO reported on Saturday that a cargo ship had been hit by an unknown projectile. According to Centcom, the vessel was the tanker "Kiku," sailing under the Panamanian flag. The New York Times, citing a US official, reported that the tanker had left Qatar on Thursday and was en route to the United Arab Emirates.
