Several New York Times reporters have been subpoenaed by the federal prosecutor's office in Manhattan after they reported on alleged security concerns regarding Donald Trump's new presidential aircraft.

The subpoenas were delivered to the journalists on Friday, some of them in person by federal agents at their home addresses. They have been instructed to testify before a grand jury the following week. The New York Times reported this, citing its own information.

The newspaper had reported this week, citing anonymous sources, that Trump had switched from the old Air Force One to a different aircraft on the advice of the Secret Service when flying from the NATO summit in Turkey to the British military base RAF Mildenhall. According to the newspaper, the new aircraft is a gift from Qatar.

In Ankara, Trump himself fueled speculation about the security of the new aircraft. When asked why he was not departing on the new aircraft, he said he was the "number 1 on Iran's death list." The US government and Trump himself rejected security concerns as the reason for the aircraft switch. Trump stated repeatedly that the stopover had served to show the new aircraft to military personnel.
