A US federal judge has frozen the roughly $111 billion takeover of the Hollywood veteran Warner Bros. by rival Paramount by court order until mid-August.

Background of the Deal

The takeover of Warner Bros. by Paramount is a mega-deal that could reshape not only Hollywood. Now the companies must pause the merger until mid-August. The background is an antitrust lawsuit by twelve US federal states seeking to block the more than $100 billion deal.

As court documents show, the judge extended the preliminary halt of the transaction until August 17. As a result, the deal, which analysts put at roughly $111 billion, remains blocked for now. Observers had on average expected proceeds of just under $117 billion.
