In the current VCÖ rail test, passengers in Austria called for improvements in punctuality, comfort, and safety in rail transport, while ÖBB pointed to existing countermeasures.

The VCÖ rail test, one of the regular comparisons of public transport services in Austria, has once again placed passenger perception at the center of its latest edition. Feedback from several federal states, including Carinthia, Styria, and Lower Austria, paints a nuanced picture of the domestic rail landscape.

The test series conducted by the Verkehrsclub Österreich (VCÖ) compares the services of different rail companies and regions. Criteria such as punctuality, ticket prices, vehicle equipment, cleanliness, and travelers' sense of security are evaluated. Once again, feedback from numerous regions fed into the overall result, with the 2026 survey revealing in some cases significant differences between the federal states, according to the available analyses.
