The Vegas Golden Knights won Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Carolina Hurricanes 5-4 on Tuesday in Raleigh, taking a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.
Hurricanes' Lightning Start
Just 25 seconds in, Nikolaj Ehlers gave the Hurricanes the lead. The goal by the 30-year-old Dane was the fastest opening goal in a Stanley Cup Final game since 1976 and the third-fastest opening goal in any Game 1 of the Final series ever. In the 13th minute, Ehlers added his second goal to make it 2-0.
The Golden Knights needed a moment but then found their way back into the game. Shea Theodore narrowed the deficit to 2-1 in the 14th minute, and Ivan Barbashev equalized at 2-2 just 30 seconds into the second period. In the 25th minute, William Karlsson gave Vegas its first lead at 3-2.
