Vienna Airport Increases Half-Year Profit by 7 Percent Despite Passenger Decline at Its Location

At the group level, the picture was different: passenger volume across the entire Vienna Airport Group rose by 1.6 percent in the same period to 24,446,132 travelers. The foreign holdings were thus able to more than offset the decline at the main location.

In addition to the Vienna location, the Vienna Airport Group includes, among others, Malta Airport and Kosice Airport. This regional diversification enables the company to cushion fluctuations at individual locations and keep the overall result stable.

Group Growth Through Foreign Holdings

The company continues to invest in expanding infrastructure at the Vienna location. One focus is the Terminal 3 south extension, which is intended to create additional capacity. The investments, referred to internally as CAPEX, are part of a long-term growth strategy.

The operating result indicators have also developed positively. EBIT – that is, earnings before interest and taxes – was increased in the first half of the year. The specific figures for EBIT have been addressed repeatedly in the reports available to date.

Despite the passenger decline at the Vienna location, the management considers the company to be well positioned. Diversification across several airports in different markets is regarded as a key advantage over competitors that operate only one location.

Outlook and Investments

For the coming months, Vienna Airport expects a stabilization of passenger numbers at the Vienna location. Seasonal effects and the launch of new flight connections are expected to contribute to a recovery. At the same time, the expansion of the foreign locations remains a central element of the company's strategy.

The news about the profit increase was picked up by several Austrian media outlets, including the OÖN. The reporting focused above all on the discrepancy between the positive group result and the decline at the Vienna location.
