Vienna, June 15, 2026

Vienna must prepare for an extensive closure package in public transit starting at the beginning of July: the S-Bahn main line between Meidling and Floridsdorf will be interrupted for over a year, the S80 on the Verbindungsbahn, parts of the U3 and the U4 between Schwedenplatz and Wien-Mitte for several weeks.

The reason for the closures, according to ÖBB, is modernization and renewal work on several critical sections of Vienna's rail network. As reported by APA, the infrastructure of the S-Bahn main line will be brought up to the latest standard by fall 2027. The central section between Praterstern and Hauptbahnhof will be affected from September and, according to those responsible, will be "nicht befahren" for over a year.
