The Vienna Higher Regional Court has partially upheld a complaint against pre-trial detention in the proceedings against the former Syrian official Mussab Abou R. and rejected the flight risk assumed by the Vienna Regional Criminal Court.

The decision was made at the Vienna Higher Regional Court (OLG Wien) following the arrest of Mussab Abou R. and the pre-trial detention imposed subsequently. The court partially granted a complaint against the detention and rejected the flight risk assumed by the Regional Criminal Court, as shown by the available reports.

The subject of the proceedings is the allegation of torture and serious human rights violations attributed to the former Syrian official. According to the co-plaintiff representation, the indictment is based, among other things, on statements from survivors of Syrian detention facilities and on evaluations by the human rights organization CEHRI. The co-defendant Khaled Al H. is also part of the proceedings.
