Danish cycling professional Jonas Vingegaard crashed on Sunday on the 15th stage of the Tour de France in a roundabout around 22 kilometers from the finish and abandoned the race with a broken collarbone.

The crash in the roundabout

According to his team Visma, Vingegaard fell on one of the toughest mountain stages of this year's Tour. "Maybe we went a bit too fast into that roundabout, and then my front wheel just slipped out from under me. There's nothing you can do about that," the Dane said.

The 29-year-old gave a brief statement on Monday in front of the team hotel "Ferme du Lac" in Thyez. "Of course it's very disappointing for us that the Tour ends this way. But that's just how cycling is. Fortunately, it's just a broken collarbone," said Vingegaard, who had been sitting in second place in the general classification behind Tadej Pogačar heading into the stage.
