The roommate as a witness

A total of four people lived in the shared apartment, two of whom were not present at the time of the crime. It was precisely that roommate, who was in another room of the shared apartment, who found the victim and then raised the alarm. When the man then looked, he found the initially critically injured person.

LKA investigator Philipp Rapold explained that the roommate of the violence victim, who had heard the crime and set the rescue chain in motion, would in any case continue to be treated as a witness – and not as a suspect. According to his own statements, he only heard "loud noises," and the whole thing had happened in a very short time.

Witness appeal without response

No one had responded to the urgent witness appeal launched by police last week. As a result, there is still no hot lead in the case of a violent crime that became known on June 25 in an apartment in Innsbruck, as Rapold told APA on Friday.

Due to the ongoing murder investigation, nothing could be disclosed about any potential suspects. When asked whether the victim himself was known to police, they declined to comment and likewise referred to the ongoing investigation.

Status of the investigation and next steps

Investigators continue to examine evidence in the apartment and in the vicinity of the crime scene. Tips from the public, also via anonymous channels, were expressly welcomed, police said.

According to investigators, the case illustrates how quickly an everyday altercation in a shared apartment can end fatally. The deputy head of the State Criminal Police Office, when asked again, referred once more to the current status of the investigation.
