Manfred Weber, Chairman of the EPP Group, has rejected speculation that his Pentecost letter, sent to CSU officeholders, constitutes a challenge to party leader Markus Söder.

Speaking on the ARD program "Maischberger," Weber stated that there is currently no leadership discussion in the CSU concerning the chairman Söder. "There is currently no leadership discussion in the CSU that questions Markus Söder. We want to work together," Weber said. He found it "a little unfortunate" that his letter was immediately interpreted as a personal debate.

Weber, who is the party and group chairman of the European People's Party (EPP) in Brussels, had previously attracted attention with a "Pentecost letter" sent to numerous officeholders. In the letter, he had called for a reorientation of the CSU. The letter had been interpreted by many in the party as an attack on Söder, which Weber now rejected.
