The third stage of the Tour de France will be held on Monday after the crossing from Spain into France without spectators, because a wildfire is raging in the Département of Pyrénées-Orientales.

The prefecture of the Pyrénées-Orientales region announced that the stage would be held without spectators after the crossing from Spain into France. In addition, the advertising caravan would not be operating on French territory. The aim of the measure was to concentrate the deployment of security forces on the wildfire, rather than on securing the race route. The fire in a hard-to-access mountain massif requires, according to prefect Pierre Regnault de la Mothe, "a massive deployment of resources for forest firefighting by our fire service, but also by internal security forces and all state agencies."
