Two major wildfires are raging in Southern California, threatening communities and prompting evacuation orders for tens of thousands of residents as firefighters battle the blazes amid dangerous weather conditions.
Fire Spread and Evacuations
A wildfire northwest of Los Angeles, near the city of Simi Valley, has expanded to approximately 5.5 square kilometers, according to fire officials. Meanwhile, a separate fire on Santa Rosa Island, off the coast of California, has engulfed about 59 square kilometers, as reported by the state fire protection agency Cal Fire.
Evacuation orders are in effect for multiple districts, with Ventura County alone seeing around 29,000 residents displaced. Authorities have warned that Santa Ana winds, known for rapidly spreading fires, could exacerbate the situation.
