wildlife authority shot and killed a disoriented moose in the center of Oslo on Thursday for 'reasons of animal welfare,' police said, marking the second such incident in Scandinavia within two days.
A moose drew crowds of onlookers in central Oslo on Thursday after straying into the capital's streets, where it was filmed galloping between cars and pedestrians in a clearly disoriented state. Videos published by media showed the animal weaving through traffic and narrowly avoiding bystanders before wildlife officers intervened.
The Oslo police said in a statement that the animal was eventually shot by the wildlife authority, citing animal-welfare reasons. "Aus Gründen des Tierwohls" sei der Elch schließlich von der Wildtierbehörde abgeschossen worden, teilte die Polizei mit. Authorities did not immediately say how the animal reached the city or what condition it was in when officers arrived.
