Brandenburg's Minister-President Dietmar Woidke (SPD) has once again advocated for the rapid expansion of the Ostbahn from Berlin toward Poland during a meeting with the Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Paweł Jarosław Gancarz, and accused the federal government of shortcomings.

After the talks with the Polish regional politician, Woidke said the current situation was "zum Schaden Deutschlands, was hier passiert." He accused the federal government of failing to sufficiently leverage Poland's economic momentum for the German economy by providing better connections to Eastern Europe.

According to the Federal Ministry of Transport, however, additional demand on the Ostbahn for international long-distance and freight traffic "beyond the already existing connections" is "not discernible." This assessment was conveyed to the German Press Agency (dpa) by a ministry spokesperson.
