A 22-year-old man from southeastern Styria crashed his car into a stationary truck on the A2 South Motorway near Raaba-Grambach (Graz-Umgebung district) on Friday and died at the scene.

Background to the Accident

The accident occurred in the early morning hours on the A2 between Graz and Vienna. According to current findings, the young man had been driving his vehicle from a direction not yet clarified when it rear-ended an articulated lorry that had previously stopped on the carriageway due to a tire defect.

The truck had been driven by a 63-year-old driver from Belarus. According to police, this driver had seen another articulated lorry with Polish license plates ahead of him that had stopped on the A2 due to a tire defect. To prevent a rear-end collision, the Belarusian had slowed down and also come to a stop.
