A Greek air force F-16 made an emergency landing on Thursday at the airport on the holiday island of Zakynthos and burst into flames, prompting the airport to be closed right in the middle of the high season.
As the news channel ERTnews reported, the Greek air force F-16 caught fire during the emergency landing. The pilot was able to escape, according to the report, before the flames spread due to leaking fuel. Authorities said no one was injured.
According to Greek media, the emergency landing was triggered by a technical malfunction on the F-16. Initial assessments suggested that a failure of the hydraulic system may have prevented the landing gear from deploying properly.
