Thirteen cows made their way onto the A13 Brenner Motorway in Tyrol on Friday morning and caused the main carriageway to be closed between Patsch and Schönberg.

Bizarre excursion onto the A13

The incident occurred on 14 August 2026 in the Patsch area of the A13 Brenner Motorway, an important north-south route in the Alpine region. According to motorway operator ASFiNAG, the animals escaped from a nearby pasture and ran onto the lane in the direction of travel. The main carriageway heading toward the Brenner Pass had to be closed for safety reasons.

Emergency services and ASFiNAG staff deployed immediately, according to their own statements. Police were also on the scene to redirect traffic and drive the animals off the roadway. According to ASFiNAG spokesperson Patrick Bickel, the operation proceeded without any injuries to people. The animals also remained uninjured, according to the information provided.
