CRANS-MONTANA, Switzerland — May 19, 2026

A 14th person has been charged in connection with the fire at Bar Le Constellation in Crans-Montana that killed 41 people and injured 115 on New Year's Eve.

The new suspect, an employee of the Crans-Montana municipality, was previously a witness in the case but was reclassified as an accused during questioning, according to Swiss media reports. The individual had worked in the building department of Chermignon before the municipality's founding and had overseen renovation work at the bar in 2015.

Investigation Takes New Turn

Prosecutors elevated the municipal employee's status from witness to accused during an interrogation late Tuesday morning, prompting the suspect to refuse further cooperation. The interrogation was subsequently terminated, and the investigation paused briefly to consult with prosecutors.
