A 23-year-old man plunged approximately 20 meters deep into a glacier crevasse at the Taschachferner near Sölden in Tyrol and was knocked unconscious in the process.
Sequence of the Accident at Taschachferner
The incident occurred at the Taschachferner, a glacier in the vicinity of Sölden in the Tyrolean main Alpine ridge. According to the Austrian media outlet OE24, the man broke through a snow bridge and fell several meters into the depths. The fall only ended at approximately 20 meters down.
The victim survived the fall but was no longer conscious after being recovered. Members of the mountain rescue service provided the man with emergency medical care following the rescue operation. According to the reports, the recovery itself proved technically demanding because the crevasse was difficult to access.
