A mountaineer fell into a crevasse in the Stubai Alps on Sunday afternoon after a rock broke loose during the descent.
According to the rescue services, the group was traveling in high-alpine terrain in the early afternoon when the rock broke loose and dragged the mountaineer down with it. The accident occurred around 3:00 p.m., as later released statements indicate.
Upon impact, the man sustained injuries to his lower leg. Rescue workers treated the injured man at the scene of the accident before he was subsequently taken to a hospital. The authorities provided no more detailed information on his state of health, as ongoing investigations are still continuing.
The accident occurred in the area of the Stubai Alps near the Hildesheimer Hütte. The rescue services were alerted through mountain rescue and the local emergency services and deployed with helicopter support due to the difficult-to-access location.
