Two German alpinists, aged 32 and 39, fell roughly 15 meters into a glacier crevasse on Saturday afternoon during a tour on the Hoher Dachstein in the district of Gmunden.
According to the information provided, the two well-equipped mountaineers were on the Hoher Dachstein and had already begun their descent when they had to cross an ice field. The fall into the glacier crevasse occurred at that point.
According to the available information, the incident took place on the Hallstätter Glacier, a heavily frequented high-alpine touring area on the southern side of the Dachstein massif in Upper Austria.
Sequence of the Accident
After the fall into the glacier crevasse, a large-scale rescue operation was launched. Mountain rescuers were deployed to free the victims from their predicament and provide medical care.
