A 29-year-old German hiker got into a mountain emergency during the night of July 12, 2026, on the 1,967-meter-high Mondspitze in the Bludenz district of Vorarlberg and was found in good health by mountain rescue teams at the summit cross.

The woman had traveled from Germany to Vorarlberg by public transport and began her tour in the afternoon. According to police reports on Sunday, she started her hike around 2:00 p.m. from the Tschengla hiking parking lot at Bürserberg.

After an ascent of roughly six hours, she reached the summit of the Mondspitze around 8:00 p.m. There she waited for sunset. After darkness fell, the hiker was stuck at the summit because she had no light sources with her.
