Weinzierl am Walde, July 14, 2026
A 42-year-old building owner fell approximately three meters on July 7 while working on the upper floor of his construction site in Weinzierl am Walde (district of Krems) and later died at St. Pölten University Hospital as a result of the fall.
The man from Lower Austria was working on the afternoon of July 7 at a construction site in Weinzierl am Walde when he fell from the upper floor approximately three meters down to the ground floor. As police confirmed on inquiry, the 42-year-old was unable to recognize the edge of the fall because a tarp had blown over the unsecured area.
After the accident, the injured man was airlifted by the Christophorus 2 rescue helicopter to St. Pölten University Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The Niederösterreichische Nachrichten (NÖN) had previously reported online about the man's death.
Course of the fall
Police assume that a strong gust of wind had blown the protective tarp over the unsecured area of the construction site, thereby contributing to the fall. "Ein starker Windstoß dürfte zuvor eine Abdeckplane über einen ungesicherten Bereich geweht haben," the investigators explained.
