A 57-year-old climber from the Vorarlberg Oberland fell around ten metres onto stony ground on Monday evening at the Hängender Stein climbing garden in Nüziders (district of Bludenz) while abseiling after climbing, and died at the accident scene, while his son had to watch the fall.

On the evening of 13 July 2026, at around 6:55 p.m., a fatal climbing accident occurred at the Hängender Stein climbing garden in Nüziders (district of Bludenz, Vorarlberg). According to police, the man was at the climbing garden together with his son when the consequential fall occurred.

The 57-year-old wanted to abseil down after climbing. In the process, the man suffered such severe injuries that he died at the accident scene. He fell from a height of around ten metres, unsecured, onto the stony ground. A tragic accident occurred on Monday evening in Vorarlberg.

According to the police, a belaying error by the experienced climber is believed to have caused the accident. The man was described by police as an experienced climber.
