A mountaineer from the Czech Republic suffered a fatal accident on Saturday during a tour to the 2,511-meter-high Große Ochsenhorn in the Loferer Steinberge in Pinzgau.
Sequence of the Accident
The man had set out around midday together with two friends for the mountain tour, as police reported. During the ascent, the tragic fall occurred, in which the Czech climber lost his life.
According to current findings, the mountaineer stepped aside on the way to the summit and then fell into the depths. The exact circumstances that led to the evasive maneuver are still the subject of the investigation.
The man's two companions remained uninjured, according to the emergency services. They had to watch the accident happen and were subsequently cared for by mountain rescue.
