After a multi-day heat wave, severe storms triggered flooding and mudslides in several northern Italian regions, with South Tyrol particularly affected.

In South Tyrol, the Burgraviate with Merano and Hafling as well as the Vinschgau were especially hard hit. Due to a mudslide between Merano and Hafling, 69 people – 39 in Merano and 30 in Hafling – had to leave their homes, according to South Tyrolean media reports. Six people were slightly injured, and three residential houses were temporarily uninhabitable.

In addition to the Burgraviate, the severe storms on Sunday also caused mudslides and road closures in the Vinschgau. "Roads, apple orchards and private properties were buried," the reports stated. Four vehicles were destroyed. Firefighters were in continuous operation, especially in Merano and the Vinschgau.
