Agrana back in the black: Group net result rises to 19.3 million euros

Strain on the sugar business

The struggling sugar business had pushed Agrana into the red in fiscal year 2025/26. Group net result for fiscal year 2025/26 amounted to minus 35.6 million euros. The number of employees fell by 600 to 8,400. Due to low sugar prices, Agrana shut down sugar production at its Leopoldsdorf im Marchfeld and Hrušovany sites in the Czech Republic in March 2025.

In the sugar segment there is "keine Markterholung" because of the low sugar prices, Büttner explained. The growth conditions for beets in July and August are decisive for the harvest and the subsequent sugar production. Due to the drought, there will be no sugar beet "Riesenernte" this year, according to the Agrana CEO.

Fruit preparations as a pillar

A contrast to the weak sugar division: the fruit preparations business is running "stabil sehr gut", the Agrana CEO said. According to its own statements, Agrana is the global market leader in fruit preparations as well as a worldwide leading producer and supplier of apple juice and berry juice concentrates.

The starch business remains "nach wie vor herausfordernd", Büttner acknowledged. The company manufactures products and formulations for dairies and the ice cream, baked goods, and beverages industries.

The fruit, starch and sugar group headquartered in Vienna is known to end consumers in Austria primarily through its "Wiener Zucker" brand. As a listed company, Agrana published its quarterly figures on Thursday.

After losses in the previous year, the food and industrial goods group Agrana returned to profitability in the first quarter of 2026/27. According to the company, the improvement compared to the prior-year quarter is attributable primarily to the already announced restructuring steps.
