The Competence Center for Climate and Health is currently analyzing the heat exposure of 1,239 hospitals, nursing and care facilities, and primary care units across Austria.
Background of the Survey
The ongoing survey, commissioned by the Ministry of Health, is intended to show how well hospitals, nursing homes, and primary care units are prepared for rising temperatures. The background is a series of hot summers that have repeatedly led to heat warnings and increased strain on vulnerable groups in Austria.
According to the Ministry, the analysis captures both structural factors and organizational precautions. These include the availability of air-conditioned rooms, the adjustment of duty schedules to heat days, and training for staff in handling heat-related emergencies.
