Paris, 04 June 2026

On Thursday in Paris, 19-year-old Russian Mirra Andrejewa won the French Open semi-final against Ukrainian 15th seed Marta Kostjuk 6:1, 6:3 and reached her first Grand Slam final.

Andrejewa, seeded eighth, dominated the match on Court Philippe Chatrier from the start. According to statistics, Kostjuk made 34 unforced errors, which explains the clear set losses in both rounds. For Andrejewa, who is coached by former Spanish top player Conchita Martínez, this is the greatest success of her young career.

Political gesture at the net

At the end of the match, the usual handshake at the net did not take place. Ukrainian tennis players have long refused this gesture towards Russian professionals to protest against the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine. This gesture has been seen multiple times in Paris and is a firm part of the politically charged encounters between players from both countries.
