Munich, September 6, 2026

The Munich-based space start-up Isar Aerospace successfully sent its Spectrum launch vehicle on a test flight from the Norwegian spaceport Andøya on September 5, 2026.

The maiden flight of the rocket, which is developed and built in Ottobrunn near Munich, marks a central milestone on the path to commercial market readiness, according to the company. The launch took place from Andøya in northern Norway, an established site for European sounding rockets.

Isar Aerospace belongs to a small group of European newcomers seeking to gain a foothold in a market that has so far been strongly shaped by US providers such as SpaceX. The company had been considered a promising European competitor for several years but had struggled with technical setbacks and delays.
