Austrian Sepp Straka completed the second round of the British Open on Friday at Royal Birkdale Club north of Liverpool with a par round of 70 strokes and is in 25th place at the halfway mark of the major tournament, six strokes behind the leading Australian Lucas Herbert.

Straka started the day from position 13 and played two birdies on the dry links course, but had to accept shot losses on the third hole and on the closing hole. At a total of two strokes under par, he is in the middle of the field after 36 holes, but has safely made the cut for the weekend rounds. "The short game was the reason I put together a good round," the Austrian explained after his round and looked ahead: "Hopefully I can hit the ball a bit better over the weekend."
