A mountaineer died on Sunday after falling around 150 meters on the Berliner Höhenweg, a high-alpine trail in the Zillertal range in Tyrol, police in the Schwaz district confirmed.

The accident occurred on the Berliner Höhenweg, an exposed high-alpine route that traverses the Zillertal Alps and is one of the most demanding multi-day hikes in Austria. The trail runs near the Brandberg area and is frequently used by experienced mountaineers tackling the route between the Zillertal and the Wipptal valleys.

According to police, the climber fell roughly 150 meters along the route and died at the scene. Officers from the Schwaz district command were deployed together with mountain rescue personnel. The recovery of the body required a coordinated operation given the steep and exposed terrain.
